Taekwondo is a very systematic martial art from Korea that involves head-height kicks, spinning, jumping, and fast kicking techniques. Taekwondo is recognized as one of the oldest forms of martial arts and one of the more popular forms to learn. Many people enjoy Taekwondo at New Ulm ATA because it involves more than just movement of the body, but also positive training of our spirit and mind.

Empowering Confidence Through Taekwondo
At New Ulm ATA, we are dedicated to helping students build the confidence and self-esteem needed to thrive in everyday life. Taekwondo reveals and strengthens the positive qualities already within—whether it’s inner calm, a positive mindset, patience, or self-discipline.
Our training helps students overcome fear, anger, and self-doubt, replacing them with a deep sense of confidence and self-assurance. You’ll leave each class feeling more prepared to handle any situation life throws your way.
The environment at New Ulm ATA is supportive, motivating, and focused on personal growth. Here, students learn perseverance, develop a strong sense of self-worth, and gain the skills necessary to defend themselves. Through consistent practice, your body and mind will internalize powerful techniques—ensuring that you’re always ready to respond with confidence and control.

Physical Fitness & Overall Health
One of the main benefits of practicing Taekwondo is the improvement of strength and balance. Since Taekwondo relies heavily on kicking techniques, practitioners learn to control and balance their body weight on one leg while using the other to strike. This dynamic movement helps develop core and leg strength while also enhancing flexibility and agility. Over time, regular training can significantly improve coordination and overall endurance.
In addition to these physical benefits, Taekwondo can be an effective tool in the fight against obesity—a growing concern in the United States. Maintaining a healthy mind and body is essential, and martial arts provide a powerful, engaging way to support weight loss. Each Taekwondo class can help you burn hundreds of calories, build lean muscle, and increase flexibility. As a high-energy workout, it not only promotes physical fitness but also instills discipline and confidence along the way.

Positive Social Interaction
Many parents choose to enroll their children in Taekwondo not only for its physical and mental benefits but also because it offers a great opportunity to build friendships. This sense of community extends beyond childhood and into adulthood. In class, students kick, punch, and work through drills together, fostering camaraderie and mutual support.
At New Ulm ATA, we cultivate a welcoming environment where everyone is encouraged to help one another achieve their personal goals. Over time, many of our members have formed lasting friendships, motivating each other to kick harder, faster, and higher.

Confidence Building/Good Example
New Ulm ATA is committed to helping you build the confidence and self-esteem necessary to thrive in everyday life. Through Taekwondo, you’ll learn to overcome fear, anger, and self-doubt, leaving you feeling confident and capable in any situation.

Variety Workouts/Stress Relief
Taekwondo is a powerful way to build mental toughness, foster a strong work ethic, and develop the persistence needed to overcome challenges in everyday life. Many members at New Ulm ATA have shared that Taekwondo provides excellent stress relief, allowing them to escape from school or work pressures by focusing entirely on executing kicks and punches. The endurance required to maintain focus and perform various techniques throughout class provides a unique workout that engages both the body and the mind. This combination of mental engagement and physical activity offers a workout experience you won’t find elsewhere.

Anti-Bullying Education
At New Ulm ATA Martial Arts, Taekwondo is more than just a physical activity—it’s a powerful tool for helping children (and adults) develop essential life skills. Our program creates an environment where our students can succeed, build self-esteem, and learn the importance of perseverance. In today’s world, where bullying is a growing concern, we focus on equipping our students with the confidence and skills to assert themselves and handle difficult situations. Our students are trained to effectively redirect verbal assaults and evaluate situations without resorting to physical confrontation.

Community
In Taekwondo, students are encouraged to support each other in class, whether it’s holding boards for breaking, providing targets for kicks, or partnering for sparring. This creates an environment where trust and reciprocity thrive, allowing sparring partners to practice kicking combinations and refine techniques together. At New Ulm ATA, this sense of community extends beyond the mats, fostering strong friendships and a shared commitment to individual and collective growth. As a result, members not only progress in their own training but also contribute to the success and well-being of the entire group, strengthening the bonds within the community.
